‘Jack Reacher’ premiere postponed after Newtown school shooting
Paramount Pictures has postponed a planned premiere of its new Tom Cruise film “Jack Reacher” in the wake of the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., that claimed the lives of 26 people Friday.
Based on the character created by English crime novelist Lee Child, “Jack Reacher” was to be celebrated Saturday in Pittsburgh, where much of the movie was shot. The film, scheduled to open Dec. 21, includes scenes of sniper violence.

“Due to the terrible tragedy in Newtown, Conn., and out of honor and respect for the families of the victims whose lives were senselessly taken, we are postponing tomorrow’s Pittsburgh premiere of ‘Jack Reacher,’” the studio said Friday in a statement. “Our hearts go out to all those who lost loved ones.”
Citing “the horrific tragedy in Newtown,” Fox canceled another red-carpet event -- this one for its upcoming Billy Crystal-Bette Midler comedy “Parental Guidance” -- set for Saturday in Los Angeles.
In July Warner Bros. canceled international premieres of “The Dark Knight Rises” after a shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., killed 12 people during a screening of the Batman film.
