Tune in to a double helping of L.A. Opera this weekend on KUSC-FM

There’s a double dose of Los Angeles Opera in store for listeners of classical music station KUSC-FM (91.5) this weekend, including a live broadcast of “La Boheme” from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in downtown L.A.
The production, which opened last Saturday and continues through June 2, features soprano Ailyn Perez and tenor Stephen Costello as the sympathetic lovers, and soprano Janai Brugger and baritone Artur Rucinski as the secondary pair of lovers, with Patrick Summers conducting. It will air Sunday at 2 p.m., hosted by Duff Murphy and Kimberlea Daggy.
Before that, however, is the opening installment of the sixth season of “L.A. Opera on Air,” which kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday with the recorded broadcast of Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin.” It will be followed on the five successive Saturdays by the other productions from L.A. Opera’s 2011-12 season — all hosted by Murphy, KUSC’s resident opera guru since 1994.
Here’s the schedule: “Eugene Onegin” on Saturday, Mozart’s “Cosi fan Tutte” on May 26, Gounod’s “Romeo et Juliette” on June 2, Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” on June 9, Britten’s “Albert Herring” on June 16, and a repeat of Puccini’s “La Boheme” on June 23.
Beginning in July, all six programs will be syndicated in the United States and internationally by the WFMT Radio Network, a division of Chicago classical music station WFMT-FM.
