Los Angeles police are searching for two suspects who killed a security guard working at an illegal casino during a robbery attempt Wednesday, according to authorities.

The guard was found shot in the 3300 block of Cahuenga Boulevard West near Universal Studios, Officer Rosario Cervantes said. Police received reports of a “man down†around 3:40 a.m., and patrol units from the North Hollywood LAPD station responded to the scene, Cervantes said.

The guard was later identified as Anthony Rivas, 32, of North Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Police found Rivas shot multiple times, authorities said. He died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Homicide investigators determined that two suspects entered the rear of the building armed with rifles and wearing ski masks. Rivas drew his pistol, and one of the suspects shot at him multiple times, police said.

Three off-duty Marines were kicked and punched by 30 teenagers and young adults near the San Clemente Pier, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said.

Police said Rivas did not fire his weapon.

The suspects searched the building for money and left out the back door without taking any property, police said.
