LG’s flagship smartphone Optimus G Pro to be an AT&T exclusive

LG, the latest phone manufacturer to launch a flagship smartphone in the last month, said its Optimus G Pro will go on sale May 10 in stores exclusively through AT&T.

The LG Optimus G Pro, already available in other parts of the world, is a mammoth device with a 1080p HD 5-inch screen with a 400-pixel density. The device also features a 13-megapixel rear-facing full-HD camera, the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.7-GHz quad-core processor.

The smartphone can be ordered starting May 3. AT&T said a 32-gigabyte version will be available for $200 with a two-year contract, and anyone who pre-orders will receive a free case for their phone while supplies last.

The release of the Optimus G Pro follows that of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 and the HTC One. All three devices are battling to be the top Android device, but the GS4 is the early favorite, based on the performance of its predecessor, the Galaxy S III.

The Optimus G Pro is unlikely to sell anywhere near as well as its two rivals considering it is available solely through AT&T while the HTC One can be purchased from T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T. The GS4, meanwhile, is available through all four major U.S. carriers. Of course, all three devices are also competing against Apple’s iPhone 5.
