Could this be what the low-cost, translucent iPhone will look like?
An artist who in the past has correctly predicted what future Apple products would look like has released concept art of his guess at the design of the rumored low-cost iPhone.
Nickolay Lamm, an artist and researcher for MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, on Tuesday posted his concept art designs based on reports. They show translucent casings of many colors.
Lamm’s designs show an iPhone that’s reminiscent of Apple’s iMac G3 desktops from the late 1990s and early 2000s. Those computers featured translucent plastic casings and came in a flurry of colors.

“The reason the iMac was made transparent was to make it seem less alien to consumers,†Lamm said in a blog post explaining his phone design. “Before the iMac, computers were all in a box shape and in gray color. The ability to see inside the computer made the device seem less mysterious and much more personal.â€
Lamm cites DigiTimes, which does not always make accurate Apple predictions, as a basis for his design. However, a report by the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday backs the claim that Apple could come out with a cheaper iPhone design with different colors options.
Lamm’s prediction of the design of the iPad mini, which was launched by the company in October, proved to be nearly spot-on. The same for the iPhone 5, which came out in September.
