Hurricane Sandy forces Google to delay Android event

Hurricane Sandy is raining on Google’s Android parade, forcing the tech giant to reschedule an event it had planned for Monday at which it was expected to announce several new products.

“We are canceling our Monday morning event in New York due to Hurricane Sandy,†Google told The Verge. “We will let you know our plans as soon as we know more.â€

Google’s event was scheduled to take place at a venue located on a waterfront pier, according to The Verge, so with the peak of Sandy’s intensity expected to happen sometime today, it’s not surprising Google chose to delay.

The Mountain View, Calif., company was expected to announce a handful of new devices for its Nexus line of phones and tablets. Among them are the Nexus 10, a rumored 10-inch tablet, and the LG Nexus 4, the latest iteration of Google’s flagship phone.

This is the second year in a row Google has had to delay an October event related to Android devices. Last year the company also chose to delay an early October event following the death of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.
