Russell Brand buys a character-filled home in Hollywood Hills West
Russell Brand — he of the off-color humor and wild-eyed visage — has bought a character-filled home in Hollywood Hills West for $2.224 million.
The restored 1926 traditional-style house was designed by Roy Selden Price, an architect known for his period revival work.
Beyond a somewhat modest entry lie 4,800 square feet of interior space with arched doorways, an office, a home theater with two tiers of seating, five bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms. The dramatic arched-ceiling living room features a fireplace.
Balconies and decks sit off the multi-story dwelling, providing room for outdoor dining, a bar and a lounge area.
The property, which has city and canyon views, is identified by the Movieland Directory as an early 1930s home of acting great Laurence Olivier.
Brand, 38, starred in “Arthur†(2011) and “Get Him to the Greek†(2010). He appeared in “Rock of Ages†(2012) and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall†(2008) as well the new movie “Paradise.â€
The comic actor was married to singer Katy Perry from 2010 to 2012. She recently reduced the price on the nearby home they bought together two years ago to $5.988 million. Called Park Hill, that house features a baronial stone foyer with a sweeping staircase, a two-story living room with a carved fireplace mantel, a pub and stained-glass windows.
Billy Rose, Joshua Myler and Gina Martino of the Agency in Beverly Hills were the listing agents for the house Brand bought. Blanche A. D’Souza of Keller Williams Realty’s Brentwood office represented Brand.
Roller hockey, anyone?
Cuba Gooding Jr. has listed his home in Pacific Palisades for sale at $11.995 million.
Set behind gates on almost an acre of grounds, the contemporary English-style house is surrounded by mature sycamore and oak trees.
Although the home is stately, the property is part playground and part parkland. There’s a sunken trampoline in the lawn, a swimming pool and a sports court set up to double as a lighted roller hockey rink or a basketball court.
The two-story house features a slate roof, five fireplaces, beamed ceilings, a media room, seven bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, a wine cellar and upstairs and downstairs laundry rooms. There is a detached guest suite and a six-car garage/gym.
Gooding, 45, is in the 2013 films “The Butler,†“Absolute Deception,†“Life of a King†and “Machete Kills.†He won an Academy Award for his supporting role in “Jerry Maguire†(1996).
David Offer of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices is the listing agent.
Vineyards and a wine-tasting room
Emilio Estevez is offering his gated compound in Malibu for sale at $7.8 million outside of the Multiple Listing Service.
The Point Dume-area property of about an acre includes vineyards, a fruit orchard and irrigated garden beds. The Mediterranean-style house features archways, hand-painted frescoes, beamed cathedral ceilings and stained glass. There are 3,731 square feet of living space, four bedrooms and five bathrooms in the main house, plus a guesthouse with a wine-tasting room.
Estevez, 51, and his fiancee, Sonja Magdevski, started growing grapes on the site and the endeavor has grown into a business under the Casa Dumetz wine label.
At the rear of the house sits a large area for outdoor entertaining with a swimming pool, spa, fire pit and boccie ball court.
Estevez bought the property in 2000 for $2.2 million, public records show. He is known for his roles in “The Breakfast Club†(1985), “The Way†(2010) and “The Mighty Ducks†movie series. He is also a writer and director.
Marcie Hartley of Hilton & Hyland Christie’s International Real Estate is the listing agent.
Plenty of room for frozen pizzas
Super-chef Wolfgang Puck has purchased a mansion in the Holmby Hills area of Beverly Crest for $14 million. The seller was Hyatt Hotel heir Anthony Pritzker.
Set at the end of a gated drive on 1.25 acres, the 1938 villa is entered through a two-story foyer. Features include 15-foot living room ceilings, a two-story library, a limestone galleria, a media room, a game room with a bar, a wine cellar, eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms in 12,289 square feet of living space.
The updated kitchen has plenty of freezer space for Puck’s signature gourmet pizzas. The master suite contains a sitting room with fireplace and dual bathrooms.
A tennis court, a gazebo and a swimming pool with spa complete the grounds.
Chef and restaurateur Puck, 64, and his Wolfgang Puck Cos. have restaurants, catering, cookbooks and a product line. His first Spago restaurant opened more than three decades ago.
Stephen Shapiro and Fred Bernstein of Westside Estate Agency were the listing agents. Kurt Rappaport of the same firm represented Puck.
Selling his sound investment
Michael Einziger of the alt-rock band Incubus has listed his Malibu retreat, with a sound studio, for $3.75 million.
This is no garage-band grunge pad, but a classy estate.
Set on nearly an acre behind gates, the one-story house was built in 1956 and has been upgraded with such features as a control room and a home theater with a loft viewing lounge. The 3,700 square feet of living space include a great room with a stone fireplace, wood-beam ceilings, four bedrooms and four bathrooms.
The ocean-view property has a deck with an observation area, a spa, a barbecue center, lawn, fruit trees and an organic garden.
Einziger, 37, is a guitarist and co-writer for the band, formed in 1991 in Calabasas. Their 1997 album, “Make Yourself,†helped them make it in the genre.
More recently, the group released a 2012 compilation album, “The Essential Incubus.†The band is touring Mexico before heading on to South America.
Known for his pedalboard guitar effects, Einziger also works outside the band as an orchestral composer and a producer. “Nighttiming,†with Kirsten Dunst and Zooey Deschanel, was recorded at his property. Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa and Igor Stravinsky are among those who have inspired him.
Brad Wiseman of Pinnacle Estate Properties is the listing agent.
