Moby sees quick interest in refreshed Los Feliz home
Electronic-music pioneer Moby is gearing up for a release in historic Los Feliz.
An English traditional home that was renovated by the DJ and musician is pending sale but still accepting backup offers, according to the Multiple Listing Service. The asking price is $4.495 million.
Set on a corner lot, the walled and hedged 1926 house incorporates a fresh aesthetic while retaining such original details as groin vault ceilings and detailed fireplace surrounds.
Tall windows and crisp white wainscoting are among features in the dining room, which holds one of three fireplaces. The living space, at 4,644 square feet, includes an updated kitchen, a grand living room and a family room with walls of built-ins. There are two master suites for a total of five bedrooms and seven bathrooms.
On the lower level, a secret entrance connects an office and guest suite to a bathroom and steam room.
A flagstone-surrounded swimming pool and spa, sitting areas and mature trees make up the grounds.
Moby, whose legal name is Richard Melville Hall, rose to fame in the 1990s for his electronic dance music, including the 1999 electronica album “Play.†More recently, the 52-year-old released the album “More Fast Songs About the Apocalypse†last year. He has another album, “Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt,†due out this month.
Three years ago, he ventured into restaurant ownership, opening the vegan bistro Little Pine in Silver Lake.
Moby bought the property two years ago for $3.4 million. He previously owned the storied Wolf’s Lair compound in Hollywood Hills and owns other property in Los Feliz.
Patrick Martin and Gwen Banta of Sotheby’s International Realty hold the listing.
Freshened Colcord enters new phase
Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Beck and wife Marissa Ribisi have sold their Gerard Colcord-designed home in Brentwood for $3.44 million.
Set on a tree-filled acre in Mandeville Canyon, the 1964 Brittany Tudor has been refreshed and updated inside and out. Features include exposed brickwork, half-timbering and thick hand-hewn beams that top the main living areas. Large picture windows bring leafy views into the living room, which has a brick fireplace.
Upstairs, the home’s dormer windows create a space for a desk and reading area. Three bedrooms, two full bathrooms and an office also lie on the second floor. A guest/bonus room with open and beamed ceilings sits above the detached garage.
Patios, lawn, mature trees and hedges fill the grounds. Also incorporated in the redesigned landscaping is a private trail that runs up the back hillside.
Richard Stearns and Carrie Berkman Lewis of Pacific Union International were the listing agents. David Offer of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties represented the buyer.
Beck, 47, won an album of the year Grammy in 2014 for “Morning Phase.†His 13th studio album, “Colors,†is set for release this month. Ribisi, a 43-year-old actress, has film credits that include “Dazed and Confused†(1993) and “True Crime†(1999).

An attached garage provides parking for two vehicles.
