Throwback Thursday: TV writer Steven Bochco lists nature-inspired home in Encino

A Richard Neutra-designed home owned by famed television writer and producer Steven Bochco is for sale in Encino at $4.995 million.

The Milton Goldman Residence, named for the first owner, has changed hands multiple times since 1951 when the Modernist masterpiece was built. The property came into Bochco’s possession in 2006 for $2.85 million. Before that it sold in 2002 for $1.82 million and in 1997 for $805,000.

Designed to allow the inhabitants to experience nature even while indoors, the house features long walls of glass to bring in views of the heavily wooded third-acre lot and gleaming wood ceilings. A reflecting pool, steppingstones and a dining patio sit outside the windows.

Expanded and updated over the years, the single-story house has 4,234 square feet of living space including living, dining and family rooms, a den, five bedrooms and five bathrooms.

There’s also a swimming pool with a spa, a stretch of lawn and a sports court.

Bochco, 71, developed such long-running TV series as “Hill Street Blues” (1981-87), “L.A. Law” (1986-94), and “NYPD Blue” (1993-2005), all of which won Emmys.
