Ex-big league star Magglio Ordoñez asks $4.4 million for Florida home

Magglio Ordoñez, the retired baseball All Star turned Venezuelan mayor, has listed his home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for sale at $4.399 million.

The custom residence, built in Mediterranean style in 2005, occupies a waterfront lot in Nurmi Isles with a summer kitchen, a pool and spa and 120 feet of private dockage. Interior features include detailed iron appointments, custom woodwork and large stained glass windows.

The two-story floor plan includes a chef’s kitchen, a family room, a formal dining room, an office, an elevator, six bedrooms and seven bathrooms in nearly 10,000 square feet. The master suite sports his and hers bathrooms and a sitting area.

Ordoñez, 40, played 15 seasons for the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers, making six All-Star teams and winning the American League batting title in 2007. He was elected mayor of Sotillo in eastern Venezuelan in December.

Property records show that the former ballplayer paid $4.4 million for the home in November 2004. The following February, Ordoñez agreed to a five-year, $75-million free agent contract with the Tigers.
