Former sci-fi paradise ‘The Ackermansion’ looks to lure a buyer in Los Feliz

Normally, a history of ghosts, ghouls and aliens tends to tank a home’s value. Not so, however, with the former estate of sci-fi icon Forrest J. Ackerman.

Dubbed “The Ackermansion,” the 1920s home once served as a museum that displayed Ackerman’s hundreds of thousands of horror and sci-fi memorabilia pieces. Now, the Spanish-style property is readying for the new chapter after listing for sale in Los Feliz for $3.79 million.

The three-story home opens to a formal entry lined with eye-catching Spanish tile and wrought ironwork. Arched doorways lead from the entry to common areas such as a formal dining room, a living room, a family room and an eat-in kitchen.

French doors lead to terraces on the home’s upper levels, which take in city views and overlook the pool in the yard below.

A private balcony hangs off the master suite. In all, there are five bedrooms, six bathrooms and about 6,000 square feet of living space.

Lyonel Katz of Lux Realty holds the listing.

The property previously traded hands last summer for $1.9 million, records show.

Ackerman, who died in 2008 at 92, is credited with coining the phrase “sci-fi.” He worked as a sci-fi editor and writer, helming the publication “Famous Monsters of Filmland,” and he represented genre mainstays, such as Ray Bradbury and Isaac Asimov, as a literary agent.
