Former Padre Brian Giles prices San Diego home at $6.495 million

Brian Giles is taking another swing at selling his San Diego home.

The former Major League Baseball outfielder, who played seven seasons with the Padres, has put his estate in Rancho Pacifica, a guard-gated community near Del Mar and Rancho Santa Fe, on the market at $6.495 million.

Built in 2004, the single-story Mediterranean is entered through a central gallery replete with wide arched doorways, beamed ceilings and detailed molding. Large formal spaces, a great room with a stone fireplace, a billiards/game room and a home theater highlight the 11,758-square-foot floor plan.

The chef’s kitchen features a stainless steel range, a large center island and a mosaic tile backsplash. The master suite, one of five bedrooms and seven bathrooms, is outfitted with a fireplace and a large walk-in closet A guest house adds two additional bedroom en-suites.

Wide glass doors open to an entertainer’s patio with a sitting area, heating lamps and an outdoor kitchen. Elsewhere on the 1.39-acre grounds is a lagoon-style pool and spa with a water slide and waterfall feature, a fire pit and large expanses of grass, set off by panoramic mountain views.

The El Cajon native purchased the home in 2006, following his second season with the Padres, for $7.9 million. The home was on the market about a year ago for about $7 million, property records show.

Giles, 44, played 15 seasons with the Indians, Pirates and Padres, making two all-star teams. The outfielder retired in 2010 following a brief appearance at the Dodgers’ spring training. He is the brother of former Braves and Padres second baseman Marcus Giles.
