Google in pact with Samsung for 10-inch Nexus tablet, report says

Google could be readying a Nexus tablet in partnership with Samsung, according to a report.

NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim told CNET the two tech giants were working on a 10.1-inch tablet. Shim said the rumored device’s display resolution will be 2,560 by 1,600 pixels with a pixel-per-inch density of 299. That would be higher than Apple’s third generation iPad retina display of 264 ppi.

Earlier this year, Google released the 7-inch Nexus 7 tablet to compete in the lower-end tablet market, so the company coming out with a larger tablet wouldn’t be a big surprise.

Apple has dominated the higher-end tablet market since 2010 with the 9.7-inch iPad. Amazon.com is entering that market next month with the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD.

Besides a 10-inch Nexus, Shim also told CNET he expects Google will release a $99 tablet in the future.

According to CNET, Shim based his information on “supply chain indications.â€

If Google and Samsung do indeed team up, this would be the pair’s first tablet collaboration but their third Nexus device, following the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus smartphones.
