Ever wanted to ask Stephen Hawking a question about artificial intelligence? Now’s your chance.
The celebrity theoretical physicist, portrayed in the movie “The Theory of Everything” last year, is giving the public an opportunity to ask him questions via Reddit, the online discussion forum.
The 74-year-old physicist is participating in the Ask Me Anything forum, during which speakers take questions posted on the website.
Hawking said in a post on Reddit that he wants to focus the discussion on artificial intelligence and making future technologies “more human.”
Usually the AMAs last a few hours, but because Hawking’s ability to respond spontaneously is limited by his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, the question-and-answer session will go on over the next few weeks.
The post received more than 4,000 comments on Monday, a few hours after the forum opened for discussion.
The top questions were about black holes disappearing in space, multi-universe theories and learning and teaching strategies for AI.
Users were also interested in the man himself. Some asked if his voice synthesizer has changed, what his inner voice sounds like to himself, and what has he done to deal with losing control of his body.
The popular Ask Me Anything forum has had some notable individuals participate in the past, including President Obama, Bill Nye and Snoop Dogg.
