A computer system outage was blamed Friday morning for widespread flight delays and other problems on Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air.

The airline reported that it had resolved its computer problems by 1 p.m. but not before delaying 26 flights and 4,000 passengers. Eight of the 250 flights scheduled Friday were canceled, with 18 rescheduled for Saturday.

The problems began about 5:25 a.m. PDT and led to the Allegiant Air website going offline. The computer outage also forced Allegiant workers to check passengers manually.

The outage had prevented the airline from contacting passengers via its text-alert system.

Television reports out of McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas and other airports showed long lines at the check-in counters for Allegiant.
