The Corvette is coming! The Corvette is coming!

Confirming what everyone and their mechanic expected, General Motors announced Thursday that it will unveil the all-new, seventh-generation 2014 Chevrolet Corvette just ahead of the Detroit Auto Show on Jan. 13.

The C7, as it’s known internally and to ‘Vette aficionados, has been in development for years and wild speculation about the car’s looks and powertrain have swirled around the Internet for about as long. Nothing is confirmed, but expect a small-block V-8, likely with direct injection and bushels of horsepower. Based on how critically panned the interior of the C6 was, one can reasonably expect a cabin that matches GM’s global ambitions for the car.

The only official Corvette image we have to work with right now is the revised ‘Crossed Flags’ logo you see above. But a peek around the Web shows a variety of renderings of what the car could look like based on prototypes caught testing recently.

Between now and the official unveiling in January, Chevrolet will release incremental details about the car on a new webpage dedicated to the C7.

We’ll have full coverage from the floor of the 2013 Detroit Auto Show starting Jan. 13. If that’s too long to wait for your automotive fix, remember that we’ll be at the L.A. Auto Show starting on Nov. 28.
