Infiniti recalling more than 100,000 sedans for throttle issue

Infiniti, Nissan’s luxury brand, is recalling more than 100,000 sedans to fix a problem with the cars’ accelerator sensor.

The National Highway Traffic Safety administration said 98,307 Infiniti M35 and M45 sedans from the 2006-10 model years were affected by the recall in the U.S. An additional 3,476 cars will be recalled in Canada.

The sensor on the cars’ gas pedal can deteriorate over time, causing it to improperly tell the engine to go into fail-safe mode. When this happens, the engine can stall when the car is coming to a stop or when it is idling. This can increase the risk of a crash, NHTSA said.

No accident or injuries have been reported as a result of this issue, Nissan brand spokesman Steve Yaeger said.

To correct the issue, dealers will replace the gas pedal and reprogram the engine’s control module at no charge. The recall will begin in November, NHTSA said.
