The Kindle Fire HD is $50 cheaper now than it will be tomorrow
It may be the perfect gift for the person who’s wanted a Kindle tablet but does not have one yet: The Kindle Fire HD, for $50 cheaper than usual. Amazon has dropped the price of the Kindle Fire HD for today only.
The regular price of the Kindle Fire HD -- the 8.9-inch, 16GB, advertising-included version -- is $299; without ads, it’s $314. The 32GB version regularly sells for $369 (with ads) and $384 (without). Each of these models is eligible for the $50 discount.
To get the $50 off from Amazon, shoppers must use the code “FIREHD89†at checkout.
But Amazon has warned that the discount is available only on a limited quantity of tablets, so it may sell out before the end of the day.
Like other tablets, the Kindle Fire HD can serve as an e-reader. Amazon, however, is boasting not about the tablet’s reading capabilities but rather about its video and audio capabilities and its downloading speed. Movies, music and games are promoted more prominently than books on the company’s Kindle Fire HD page.
In that area, new Kindle HD owners may be tempted to try Amazon Prime, a multifaceted service offered by Amazon for $79 a year -- the company is offering a month’s free trial to new subscribers. Amazon Prime includes access to the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library, a way to borrow certain e-books for free. Amazon Prime also includes free two-day shipping many physical goods and some free video streaming -- because it’s not just about books.
