Video: Elizabeth Gilbert’s next book will be a how-to on creativity
Elizabeth Gilbert has put creativity under the microscope. As the author of the runaway bestselling memoir “Eat, Pray, Love,†the writer wrestled with how to follow up her biggest hit. For years she wrestled with what to write next, and how to be happy with her work as a writer.
Her next book tackles both those questions: “Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear†is coming Sept. 22.
In the book, publisher Riverhead writes in a release, “Gilbert digs deep into her own generative process to share her wisdom and unique perspective. With profound empathy and radiant generosity, she offers powerful insights into the mysterious nature of creativity. She invites readers to embrace curiosity and to let go of needless suffering. She discusses the attitudes, approaches, and habits that allow the most creative life possible. Balancing between soulful spirituality and cheerful pragmatism, Gilbert encourages readers to uncover the ‘strange jewels’ that lie hidden within. Exuding all the humor, big-heartedness, wild vulnerability and wisdom that have won Gilbert her multitudes of devoted fans, she delivers a vibrant message on how anyone can find – and make – Big Magic.â€
Gilbert explored some of the ideas in the book in two TED talks, 2009’s “Your Elusive Creative Genius†and 2014’s “Success, Failure and the Drive to Keep Creating.â€
Although she has been revealing about her fears and creative hurdles, Gilbert has kept writing. In 2010 she published the nonfiction book “Committed: A Skeptic Makes Peace with Marriage,†and in 2013, a bestselling novel, “The Signature of All Things.â€
