Talk about hot summer reads.

The new book “Grey†by E.L. James -- which tells her “Fifty Shades†story from Christian Grey’s point of view -- has topped 1 million in sales in just four days.

Publisher Vintage Anchor announced the news Monday. Tallying print, audiobooks and e-books together, “Grey†has sold more than 1.1 million copies.

“This is an astonishing number of books to sell over a weekend and speaks to the engagement and passion readers have for the Fifty Shades books,†publisher Anne Messitte said in a statement.

To meet demand, the publisher is going into additional print runs of “Grey,†which is going into third, fourth and fifth printings. That’s bringing the total number of copies of “Grey†in print to 2.1 million copies. Reprints are being delivered daily to bookstores.

James herself has appeared at American bookstores to celebrate the release of “Grey.†She did a book signing in New York at Barnes & Noble and then, with very little notice, appeared outside Dallas in Sulphur Springs, Texas, where she signed books for fans at a sold-out event.

James’ erotica series -- “Fifty Shades of Grey,†“Fifty Shades Darker,†“Fifty Shades Freed†and “Grey†-- has sold more than 125 million copies worldwide.
