Romney enters final weekend with lead in Florida GOP primary

After a brief scare, Mitt Romney appears to have reclaimed the advantage in Florida heading into the final weekend of campaigning before Tuesday’s presidential primary.
A new Quinnipiac University poll gives the former Massachusetts governor a 38%-29% lead over Newt Gingrich among likely voters, with Ron Paul at 14% and Rick Santorum slipping to 12%. The survey of 580 Florida Republicans was conducted Tuesday through Thursday.
A poll released just days earlier by Quinnipiac showed Romney statistically tied with Gingrich, 36%-34%.
Quinnipiac’s results mirror the findings of other pollsters. The Real Clear Politics average of recent polling gives Romney a lead of about 7 points over Gingrich.
Two-thirds of respondents in the Quinnipiac poll said their minds were made up. And in fact, some 463,000 Republicans have already cast a ballot through early or absentee voting, the Tallahassee Democrat reported today.
Fifty delegates are at stake in Tuesday’s GOP vote.
