UCLA advances to Pac-12 title game as Utah loses to Colorado
UCLA will play in the first Pac-12 football championship game.
Win or lose against USC on Saturday at the Coliseum, the Bruins will play either Oregon or Stanford on Dec. 2. Oregon advances with a victory over Oregon State on Saturday.
UCLA advanced when Colorado upset Utah, 17-14, Friday afternoon in Salt Lake City. Utah had won four in a row. Colorado had not won a road game in four years.
“One of the goals we established as a team when we entered camp this fall was to play for the first-ever Pac-12 title,†Bruins Coach Rick Neuheisel said. “Keeping in mind that we are still focused on beating USC tomorrow night, we are certainly excited to represent the South Division on December 2nd in the conference championship game.â€
Advancing without winning opens up a scenario where the Bruins (6-5 overall, 5-3 in conference play) could lose bowl eligibility by losing to USC and in the conference title game.
UCLA would be left with 6-7 record and would be required to petition the NCAA leadership council for a waiver.
