Nevada tunes up for Boise State with 52-6 romp
at No. 19 Nevada 52, New Mexico State 6: Vai Taua ran for 111 yards and two touchdowns and scored a third on a 79-yard pass at the Wolf Pack (10-1, 4-1 Western Athletic) tuned up for Friday’s showdown against Boise State. Nevada ensured its first 10-win season since 1991 with its 11th consecutive home victory as Colin Kaepernick completed 15 of 27 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a third. Freshman Andrew Manley completed 19 of 39 passes for 220 yards for the Aggies (2-9, 1-6 WAC). But Nevada’s defense held New Mexico State to 89 yards rushing, sacked Manley five times and had two interceptions. The last one was returned 90 yards for a touchdown by Khalid Wooten with 5:17 left in the game.
at Brigham Young 30, New Mexico 7: Jake Heaps threw two touchdown passes to fellow freshman Cody Hoffman and ran for another score as the Cougars (6-5, 5-2 Mountain West) earned bowl eligibility despite committing 14 penalties.
Idaho 28, at Utah State 6: Eric Greenwood scored two touchdowns in the first half and Deonte Jackson scored twice in the second half to lead the Vandals. Idaho quarterback Nathan Enderle completed 20 passes on 31 attempts for 243 yards and three scores for the Vandals (5-6, 2-4 WAC).
at Tulsa 31, Texas El Paso 28: G.J. Kinne threw for 325 yards and two touchdowns for the Golden Hurricane (8-3, 5-2 Conference USA), which must win its final game against Southern Mississippi and hope Southern Methodist loses at East Carolina to win the C-USA West title.
at Wyoming 44, Colorado State 0: Alvester Alexander rushed for a school-record five touchdowns as the Cowboys (3-9, 1-7 Mountain West) ended a six-game losing streak.
at Rice 62, East Carolina 38: Jeremy Eddington rushed for 141 yards and four touchdowns as the Owls (3-8, 2-5 C-USA) rolled up 639 yards of offense.
at Linfield (Ore.) 42, Cal Lutheran 26: Simon Lamson rushed for four touchdowns to give the Wildcats the victory in the first-round NCAA Division III playoff game. Eric Rogers had 11 catches for 216 yards for the Kingsmen.
at Carroll 35, Azusa Pacific 21: Corey Peterson caught two long touchdown passes, including a game-clinching 50-yarder, and John Camino rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns as No. 2-ranked Carroll College held off Azusa Pacific to win an NAIA first-round playoff game at Helena, Mont.
