Healthcare executive named to run Southland nonprofit hospital chain
A longtime hospital executive with extensive experience in Southern California’s healthcare industry has been tapped to lead a chain of nonprofit Catholic hospitals in the Los Angeles area.
Michael Hunn, chief executive of Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance, has been named senior vice president and chief executive of Providence Health & Services’ California region.
He will oversee more than 10,000 employees at five hospitals, outpatient centers, long-term care facilities, physician organizations, hospice programs and a Catholic high school in Burbank.
Hunn, 55, has served as the chief executive of 12 medical centers over the last 19 years, primarily in Southern California. He has spent the last five years at the Providence medical center in Torrance. In addition to that site, he will oversee hospitals in Mission Hills, Burbank, Tarzana and San Pedro.
“In healthcare today, we have a very serious obligation and responsibility to ensure we create affordable access,†said Hunn, who lives in Orange County. “We need to do everything possible to eliminate waste, reduce risk, cause no harm and work in complete collaboration with our medical staff.â€
