Dwayne Polee Jr. is City basketball player of the year
Twenty-nine years after his father won a similar award, Dwayne Polee Jr. of Westchester High on Tuesday was selected City Section boys’ basketball player of the year by a media panel.
Like his father, Dwayne Sr., who led Manual Arts High to the 1981 City 4-A title, Polee led his team to the City Division I championship. The 6-foot-7 senior showed great improvement as a rebounder, shot blocker and scorer this season in helping the Comets to a 31-3 record.
Westchester won its 11th City Section title and will play for its sixth state Division I title Saturday night against Newark Memorial in Bakersfield.
Joining Polee as a first-team All-City selection were teammates Kareem Jamar and Jordin Mayes. City runner-up Woodland Hills Taft was represented by Bryce Jones, De’Andre Daniels and Pierson Williams.
Coaches will select their All-City teams for boys and girls later this week.
