His American hits include the “Rush Hour� franchise with Chris Tucker, “Shanghai Noon� and “Shanghai Knights� with Owen Wilson, “The Forbidden Kingdom� with Jet Li, and his 1996 stateside breakthrough, “Rumble in the Bronx.� He voiced Monkey in “Kung Fu Panda� and appeared in both “Cannonball Run� movies, which are said to have inspired his inclusion of bloopers in his films’ credits. He’s proudest of his classic Hong Kong films “Police Story,� “Drunken Master II� and “Project A,� which he also directed: “I want people . . . to see the real action.
