MUSIC
Green Umbrella: Maxwell Davies and Schoenberg Stefan Asbury conducts the Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group in a selection of classical compositions. Maxwell Davies’ “Eight Songs for a Mad King” is an avant-garde exploration of a delusional monarch’s fantasies while Schoenberg’s “Pierrot lunaire” is an intense expressionist score that Stravinsky called “the solar plexus . . . of early 20th century music.” Walt Disney Concert Hall, 111 S. Grand Ave. 8 p.m. $32.75-$59. (323) 850-2000. www.laphil.com.
BOOKS
Ozzy Osbourne The Prince of Darkness has trouble making it through phonetically difficult sentences these days, so we were a bit shocked that he finished his memoir “I Am Ozzy,” sort of an “I, Claudius” for metalheads. But we’ll throw it to the man himself in paraphrasing his travails: “I took lethal combinations of booze and drugs for thirty years. I survived a direct hit by a plane, suicidal overdoses, STDs. I’ve been accused of attempted murder. Then I almost died while riding over a bump on a quad bike at two miles per hour.” Book Soup, 8818 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood. 7 p.m. www.booksoup.com.
Ian Whitcomb The British-born balladeer, ukulele enthusiast, part-time actor and Grammy-winning record producer will talk about and sign copies of his book, “Letters From Lotusland.” The comedic biography traces Whitcomb’s riotous life as an ex-pat in Los Angeles County. Vroman’s Bookstore, 695 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena. 7 p.m. Free. (626) 449-5320. www.vromans bookstore.com.
