Jack Michon, 75, an Emmy-winning editor of the sitcom âTaxiâ who also produced features and documentaries, died Aug. 29 at a care center in Torrance. He had encephalitis and died of heart failure, said Noelle Michon, one of his three daughters.
Born in 1934 in Hackensack, N.J., Michon spent four years in the Navy and started his career at NBC News.
During the Vietnam War, Michon edited news footage from the front lines for the âHuntley-Brinkley Reportâ and âNBC Nightly News.â In the late 1970s, he produced the â28 Tonightâ newsmagazine series for KCET-TV Channel 28.
He edited more than a dozen episodes of âTaxiâ in 1980 and â81 and shared an Emmy Award for editing. He also produced the 1985 made-for-TV movies âBridge Across Timeâ and âSins of the Fatherâ and served as an assistant editor on the 1979 feature film âNorth Dallas Forty.â
As a human rights activist, the âgregarious and outspokenâ Michon was âvery involved in the Green Party,â his daughter said. âIf there was a cause, he protested it.â
