Los Angeles police are investigating the death of a woman hit by a train Monday afternoon south of the Northridge Fashion Center.
Preliminary reports indicate the woman may have been trying to commit suicide. She was standing on the tracks near Tampa Avenue when an Amtrak train approached about 3:40 p.m., said LAPD Officer Gregory Baek.
Firefighters pronounced her dead at the scene. No description of the woman was available Monday evening, and no other injuries were reported in the incident, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott.
