An officer in a California Highway Patrol cruiser saw the vehicle run the light about 3:15 p.m. near 11th Avenue and Vernon Avenue in Leimert Park, police said.
The California Highway Patrol officer tried to pull over the driver, but the vehicle smashed into another vehicle, according to Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The names of the victims were not released.
Two of the injured people were taken to a hospital in critical condition, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
A third person involved in the crash had minor injuries, fire officials said.
