CALIFORNIA BRIEFING
After five years of construction, commuters Monday began using new lanes along the 405 Freeway.
New carpool and exit lanes made their debut on the southbound 405 Freeway between the 10 and 90 freeways over the weekend. The existing traffic lanes were also widened.
Northbound lanes between the 10 and 90 freeways are slated to open in coming weeks.
The $167-million project aims to smooth traffic flow on one of the Southland’s most congested freeways. The nearly $1-billion widening of the 405 Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass is about to begin.
