The Serbian Orthodox Church ordered the closure of a drug treatment center after a video showed an apparent patient being beaten with a shovel, punched and kicked.
A video posted on the website of Belgrade’s Vreme weekly showed a person said to be one of the center’s employees repeatedly beating a man with a shovel, kicking him and hitting him in the face with brass knuckles in a room decorated with icons.
Government rights watchdog Sasa Jankovic announced that he had filed charges against the center and its lead priest.
