A judge in the province of Quebec has found a Rwandan man guilty of war crimes during his country’s 1994 genocide.
Desire Munyaneza, 42, is the first person convicted under a Canadian law that allows residents to be tried for war crimes committed abroad.
Munyaneza, a Hutu, faces a possible life sentence on charges that include genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes for his role in the rape and slaughter of Tutsis and moderate Hutus.
