Tigers beat Rangers, 5-3, despite hitting into triple play

at Detroit 5, Texas 3: Justin Verlander gave up three hits in six innings and the Tigers won their fifth in a row despite hitting into a triple play. Detroit’s Wilkin Ramirez, making his major league debut, broke a 1-1 tie with a homer in the sixth inning. Gerald Laird lined into a triple play, the first one the Rangers have turned since 2002, in the fourth inning.
at Boston 8, Toronto 3: David Ortiz broke a career-high 149 at-bat homerless drought in a six-run fifth inning and Brad Penny pitched his best game of the season for the Red Sox. Ortiz had not homered since Sept. 22.
Oakland 7, at Tampa Bay 6: Brett Anderson pitched into the seventh inning to pick up his first major league win, and Orlando Cabrera was one of six Athletics to drive in at least a run.
at Chicago 7, Minnesota 4: Jermaine Dye’s grand slam capped a seven-run fourth inning, leading the White Sox past the Twins, who have lost six straight.
Cleveland 6, at Kansas City 5: Mark DeRosa had three hits and drove in the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning for the Indians.
at Seattle 1, Angels 0: Ken Griffey Jr. drove in a run in the first inning.
