Chicago 7, at Cleveland 4: Jim Thome hit two two-run home runs against Indians starter Jeremy Sowers (0-2), his 42nd multi-homer game. Thome has 547 home runs and trails Mike Schmidt by one for 13th place on the all-time list.
at Baltimore 7, Tampa Bay 5: Orioles center fielder Adam Jones hit two home runs for the first time in his career and drove in four runs. Both home runs came against Andy Sonnanstine (1-4), who had given up only one in 32 2/3 innings this season.
at Texas 7, Seattle 1: Josh Hamilton returned from the disabled list and hit the go-ahead home run in a six-run seventh inning. The Rangers won for the eighth time in 10 games.
at Minnesota 6, Detroit 2: Kevin Slowey (5-1) gave up one run in six innings and the Twins’ struggling bullpen protected a lead for three innings.
at Oakland 12, Kansas City 3: Jack Cust hit a three-run home run in a seven-run second inning, and Orlando Cabrera finished with three hits and four runs batted in.
Boston 4, at Angels 3: Jason Varitek drove in the go-ahead run with a double in the ninth inning.
