A fond memory of Vin Scully

The review of the biography of Vin Scully [“The Magical Voice, a Man and a Mystery,” by Josh Getlin, June 6] reminded me of my only meeting with the legendary broadcaster.
Shortly after he lost his son in the helicopter accident, I saw “Vinnie” and his grandchild at the barbershop. While hesitant to approach him, I finally did and said, “When I was a boy living in Silver Lake, I used to fall asleep listening to your broadcasts.”
Without missing a beat, he replied, “My broadcasts put a lot of people to sleep!” He is truly a treasure.
