A senior police officer and an Islamic militant were shot to death in Russia’s turbulent republic of Chechnya, media said.
The head of the criminal investigation department for an area within the Chechen capital, Grozny, died after militants opened fire from their vehicle, RIA news agency reported, quoting the republic’s Interior Ministry. Another officer was hurt and one militant killed.
The vehicle had been stopped in Grozny so the passengers’ documents could be checked, the news agency reported.
