GAME OF THE DAY
Sylmar (14-6, 4-0) at Reseda (13-6, 4-0)
Tonight at 7
Why it matters: First place in the Valley Mission League is at stake. UCLA-bound Tyler Honeycutt of Sylmar, averaging 17.8 points and 11.1 rebounds, will probably have to show his dribbling skills going against Reseda’s full-court press. Garry Ricks leads Sylmar with an 18.5 scoring average. Reseda is trying to help its seeding for the City Section Division II playoffs, and an upset tonight would be helpful. Ryan Watkins, a 6-foot-7 senior, is averaging 20.9 points.

TUESDAY’S RESULT
No. 10 Etiwanda 89, Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos 54
Leading contributors: Perris Blackwell scored 24 points and Jordan Finn had 16 for Etiwanda. UCLA-bound junior point guard Kendall Williams led all scorers with 30 points for Los Osos.
The scoop: Finn and fellow Etiwanda big man Christian Katuala outscored their starting Los Osos counterparts, 38-1. “They killed us on the boards,” Grizzlies Coach David Smith said. “Every time we missed a shot, we were getting one shot and out. And every time they missed a shot, they were getting two or three shots at it.”
Why it matters: Etiwanda solidified its status as the runaway front-runner in the Baseline League and one of the top teams in the Inland Empire. “I think everyone in our league pretty much knew it was Etiwanda and the rest of us were fighting for second,” Smith said. “We hoped to steal one, but they’re just better than we are.”
Records: Etiwanda 16-4, 5-0; Los Osos 14-9, 4-1.
