A man suspected of killing his wife and stabbing his daughter was found dead in an apparent suicide, the Oxnard Police Department said Sunday.
Mauricio Cuevas Romero, 40, was found by hikers Saturday morning in a car in a parking lot of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, said police Sgt. Jim Seitz.
The hikers “thought he was sleeping. They went on their hike, and when they came back they knocked on the window of the car,” he said. “When he didn’t respond, they called the Sheriff’s Department.”
Romero bled to death after cutting his left arm, according to Craig Stevens, Ventura County senior deputy medical examiner.
Police suspect that Romero killed his wife, Olga Lidia Dominguez-Simon, 39, in their Oxnard home Wednesday; she died of multiple stabs and cuts. Romero is also suspected of stabbing his 16-year-old daughter, who remains hospitalized, Seitz said.
Romero fled before officers arrived, and a warrant had been issued for his arrest, Seitz said.
