Cougars win in overtime
Aron Baynes had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Washington State erased a second-half deficit to beat Oregon State, 61-57, in overtime Thursday at Corvallis, Ore.
Caleb Forrest’s two free throws to open the extra period gave the Cougars a 52-50 lead, their first advantage since a 30-29 lead with 1:30 left in the first half. Washington State (10-6, 2-2 Pacific 10 Conference) never trailed in overtime.
Calvin Haynes had a game-high 19 points for Oregon State (6-9, 1-4), which has seen its last two home games go to overtime. The Beavers defeated USC, 62-58, in overtime on Jan. 4 to break a 23-game Pac-10 losing streak.
Washington 84, Oregon 67: Isaiah Thomas had 23 points and Jon Brockman became Washington’s all-time leading rebounder in the Huskies’ win at Eugene, Ore.
Brockman entered the game needing eight rebounds to break Doug Smart’s school record of 1,051. He finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Joevan Catron had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead Oregon (6-11, 0-5). Washington is 12-4, 3-1.
