Critic’s pick: ‘The Godfather’ Trilogy
No one has to be told how great the “Godfather” films are. The first two, especially, just about define irresistible. Like those potato chips you can’t have only one of, they’re films that, once started or stumbled upon, demand to be seen all the way to the end. They are that well constructed, that hypnotic, simply that good. And now, thanks to the American Cinematheque, newly restored 35-millimeter versions of all three are making a rare big-screen appearance as a trilogy at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica. The original film will show Friday, “The Godfather Part II” on Saturday and “The Godfather Part III” on Sunday, all at 7:30 p.m. An offer you shouldn’t even think about refusing.
