Long Beach Millikan 38, Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos 26
Leading contributors: Senior guard Jaslyn Cosey scored 12 points and senior guard Ashley Mitchell had nine for host Millikan. Senior point guard Amanda Copas scored 13 points and senior center Cierra Warren had eight for Los Osos.
The scoop: Millikan held Warren, who entered the game averaging 19.1 points, to less than half her average. The Rams played strong defense and dominated the offensive boards.
SATURDAY’S RESULT
Why it matters: Millikan advanced to a Division I-AA quarterfinal, moving one step closer to a second consecutive appearance in the championship game. Los Osos fell short in its bid to win a second consecutive section title after last year claiming the championship in Division II-AA. “Millikan played with more tenacity tonight,” Los Osos Coach Keith Howard said.
Records: Millikan 24-4, Los Osos 21-7
