GAME OF THE DAY
Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict’s Prep (19-1)
at No. 1 Santa Ana Mater Dei (23-0)
Tonight at 9, ESPNU.
Why it matters: St. Benedict’s Prep, ranked No. 2 in the country by USA Today, is the biggest remaining stumbling block top-ranked Mater Dei faces in its quest for an undefeated season. The Gray Bees come into the featured game of the Nike Extravaganza after their first defeat of the season -- an 88-62 loss against nationally ranked Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick’s. St. Benedict’s Prep is led by Texas-bound junior forward Tristan Thompson and is coached by Dan Hurley, the brother of former Duke All-American point guard Bobby Hurley.
