A fatal crash early Wednesday in Mira Loma involving a Riverside County firetruck and a pickup truck, which left one motorist dead and two firefighters injured, is being investigated by the CHP.
The crash was reported shortly after 5 a.m. at Etiwanda Avenue and Van Buren Boulevard, just south of the Pomona Freeway, said Fire Capt. Fernando Herrera of the Riverside County Fire Department.
Herrera said the firetruck was responding to a radio call of a traffic collision and was traveling south on Etiwanda with its lights and sirens on when it crashed with the pickup, which was traveling west on Van Buren.
The 60-year-old driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. A fire captain and a firefighter suffered moderate injuries and were taken to a hospital for observation.
Herrera said traffic is often heavy at the intersection, which is frequently used by semitrailers and other large vehicles.
