Ennis Homes, a closely held home builder founded in 1979, filed for bankruptcy protection.
The Chapter 11 petition estimates assets and debts at $100 million to $500 million each. The Porterville, Calif., company also does business as Amber Meadows, Pheasant Ridge and other brands. The company’s largest unsecured creditor is Bacchus Vineyards Inc. of Woodland Hills.
