GAME OF THE DAY
La Puente Bishop Amat (15-5) vs. Lakewood (14-8-1)
Tonight at the Major League Baseball Urban Academy in
Compton, 6
Why it matters: A big reason Bishop Amat has moved up to No. 9 in The Times’ rankings after opening the season with three losses in its first five games has been the play of UNLV-bound pitcher Brady Zuniga (6-1, 1.43 earned-run average). Zuniga brings a six-game winning streak into this Redondo tournament game against No. 24 Lakewood. Lakewood pitcher Jeff Yamaguchi (3-3) will face a loaded lineup that features catcher Jerry McClanahan, hitting .458 with five homers and 23 runs batted in.

FRIDAY’S RESULT
Reseda Cleveland 11, Woodland Hills El Camino Real 8
Top contributors: Niko Garcia of Cleveland had two doubles and a home run. Juan Perez and Spencer Horowitz of Cleveland had two hits. Travis Keppel of El Camino Real hit his eighth home run and went three for three.
The scoop: Garcia’s three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning broke a 6-6 tie. David Carver pitched the final five innings for Cleveland, getting the last out with the bases loaded.
Why it matters: Cleveland completed a two-game sweep this week of the Conquistadores and stayed tied for first place in the West Valley League with Chatsworth.
Records: Cleveland 17-4, 7-1; El Camino Real 15-7, 4-4.
