Macy’s Inc., Neiman Marcus Group Inc. and other department store chains won an appeals court ruling that invalidated a California woman’s patent for a method of covering a woman’s nipple under sheer clothing.
Randi Black, who worked for movie studios in Los Angeles, had claimed that stores selling women’s lingerie were infringing her patent for nipple covers. An appeals court, without comment, said a magistrate judge was correct to decide the patent was invalid.
The lawsuit targeted the NuBra made by Pomona-based Bragel International Inc., described as a strapless, backless bra that the stores sold for $40 or more.
