A 68-year-old man has been arrested in Texas in connection with a 1971 slaying in San Diego, the Police Department’s cold case squad announced Tuesday.
Gerald Metcalf was arrested by Texas Rangers on behalf of San Diego police in the murder of 27-year-old Gerald Jackson. The victim’s car was found in Mexicali soon after the slaying but no arrest was made.
The link was made when a cold case intern matched a fingerprint at the murder scene with Metcalf, according to Lt. Terry McManus.
Metcalf is in jail awaiting extradition to San Diego.
