Dressing down a ship’s staff

Having just returned from a Princess cruise, I want to add something to your commentary [“Tipped Off,” On the Spot, Sept. 28]. My complaint is the complete bombardment by the staff to buy soda packages ($39.99 for all you can drink), wine tastings, etc. on the first day of the cruise.
I was disappointed in the attire aboard our ship, the Island Princess. It’s a shame that cruising has gone from an elegant experience to time on a boat with people wearing jeans to dinner.
