Re “Governor of N.Y. linked to call girl,” March 11
If and when every politician has the dignity to resign because of conduct that has been deemed as unbecoming of his public office, then New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer should follow their lead. Idaho Sen. Larry Craig and Louisiana Sen. David Vitter, to name a few, should show Spitzer how it’s done.

It is unlikely that I will become a public figure, be linked to a prostitution ring or hold a news conference. It is absolutely unimaginable, however, that I would subject my wife to appearing, or that she would agree to appear, grim-faced beside me as I explained my transgressions.
I might have a scintilla of respect for these clowns if they would leave the wife behind the curtains in her own private hell.

Re “A sorry lot, indeed,” Opinion, March 11
Indeed, for public figures (like young children), getting caught brings on the tears of regret, not of the infraction. Paul Slansky’s list certainly supports his thesis, but where’s the beef? Why isn’t President Clinton on this list?
Slansky dips into history with Illinois Rep. Daniel Crane’s 1983 escapade. Clinton and Monica Lewinsky hooked up in 1995.
Is it because Clinton did not apologize, or because Clinton didn’t think it was sex?
